Multiple Morphological Changes: On the Application of Photoinitiators in UV Coatings

In 1963, the German Bayer company developed the first generation of UV light-cured wood coatings, and then UV-cured coatings developed rapidly around the world, and now an industrial group with a certain market scale has been formed.

Nowadays, the requirements for green and environmentally friendly coatings are very strict, and many countries have legislated to strictly limit the content of VOC (volatile organic solvents) in coatings. Due to the high solid content of UV coatings, there is no or almost no solvent volatilization during the film forming process, and zero or low VOC emissions have been achieved.

Use of UV coatings

Industrial UV wavelength applications range from 200nm to 450nm.

UV coatings can be coated by dip coating, flow coating, roller coating, spray coating, or even vacuum coating, and then cured by ultraviolet light to form a film.

Advantages of UV Coatings

✔ Free of volatile organic compounds (VOC)

✔ Little pollution to the environment

✔ fast curing

✔ Save energy

✔ Good performance of cured products

✔ Suitable for high-speed automated production

Application of UV Coatings

Surface coating treatment of plastic, wood, paper, leather, metal, vacuum plating (such as car headlights, wooden floors, cabinet panels, mobile phones, DVDs, cosmetics, televisions and computers).

Features of UV Coatings

✪ Utilize the energy of ultraviolet light to initiate the polymerization and crosslinking reaction between the low molecular prepolymer or oligomer in the paint and the monomer molecule as a reactive diluent to obtain a hardened paint film. dry.

✪ According to the industry statistics of the Radiation Curing Special Committee of the Chinese Photosensitive Society on the main raw materials and formula products of radiation curing coatings, it can be found. my country's radiation-cured coating products have grown steadily, and have shown a good follow-up growth trend. Although the light-induced industry has experienced the impact of environmental protection and rectification of upstream raw materials, it still grows steadily every year, and the annual export rate exceeds 30%.

184

184, referred to as HCPK, is easily soluble in organic solvents and monomers. It has high photoinitiating activity, excellent thermal stability and no yellowing. It is one of the most commonly used photoinitiators in China.

The maximum absorption wavelength is 333nm. It is mainly used to initiate rapid curing of acrylate and methacrylate systems. The reference dosage is 2% to 4%, and the curing time is 190s and 140s respectively.
